Science Project and Dr. Suess Fun!

We've had such a fun week and finally back into the swing of things! This week our focus was all about science. We talked about what science really is as well as what scientists do. On Thursday we were scientists ourselves and attempted to answer the question "What happens to Peeps when put in different liquids?"

Students made predictions of what would happen to the Peeps if placed in water, oil, vinegar, milk and Sprite. We then tested our hypothesis and came to our own conclusions. Everyone was surprised to see that several of the peeps turned totally white after ten minutes in the liquid. Be sure to ask your child about this fun experiment!
On Friday we finally wrapped up our Dr. Suess studies with our pajama day and Dr. Suess feast!

Look at how fun these snacks are! Truffula trees, green eggs and ham, and "Oh the Places you'll go" cookies!

The afternoon enjoyed barbaloot, truffula trees, green eggs, one fish two fish cupcakes and cat in the hat snacks. A big THANK YOU to everyone who sent in items for our special day!

Our week also included a special visitor from Pediatric Dentistry of Hamburg. We enjoyed learning more about how to take good care of our teeth!

We've also had a lot of fun this week finishing up our Dr. Suess themed centers.
Check out these fun pics!

Don't forget, School is now IN session this Friday, March 20th!

Field Trip Fun and getting back into the swing of things!

It's been nice to finally get back into the swing of things after a full week off for snow! Hopefully those snow days are behind us and we can look forward to spring! Below the students are sharing their journal writing about what they did on the surprise extra winter break! :) Lots of movies were watched, games were played and snow ball fights occurred!

Centers were lots of fun this week as we practiced our rhyming.

As well as played "Alphabet Marks the Spot" where we identified beginning letter sounds and found the matching letter.

We even practiced beginning, middle, and ending sounds with stamps as well as addition and subtraction in our math center.

I'm very impressed with our students writing! It appears many of them are really getting the hang of sounding out words and listening to the sounds the letters make so they can write them. Your help at home with this is greatly appreciated!

Our field trip to see The Cat in the Hat performed by The Lexington Children's Theater was a big hit! Can you see the smiles on their faces??

Upon our return students were asked to write in their journals their favorite part of the play. You can see Grace's favorite was when the Cat in the Hat came in. Of course many other students enjoyed that as well! Be sure to ask your child what he/she liked best about the play!

This coming week is certain to be fun for all! It's all about Dr. Suess and his books! From Green Eggs and Ham to Fox in Socks it's sure to be a good time! Don't forget to dress up each day! :) Monday is Silly socks day, Tuesday is Hat Day, Wednesday is Wacky Wednesday (mixed up silly clothes), Thursday wear green and Friday is Pajama day for "Camp Read a lot!" We'll be sharing stories and having a fun Dr. Suess themed feast!
